FUNERAL
Yes, photographing funerals is taboo. Yes - but. Just like moments of intense joy, capturing this time in its sacred weight is, for me, part of family remembrance. I hope that when I die, those who loved me will dance, sing, and do what I have done all my life: try to find light in the chaos. Like photographing childbirth, photographing funerals can seem incongruous. The first time I dared to take pictures during a ceremony, I felt like I was stealing the shots. But I also saw such love between the bereaved - such looks, hands clasped, bodies holding each other. A feeling of unity in the face of grief. I saw sisters dancing and singing in front of their mother's coffin, paying her a final tribute with the joy she had passed on to them. I saw siblings surrounding their mother, creating a circle of tenderness. I saw a couple strengthening their bond to face the hardship of grief. The photograph of the deceased has been altered by AI for reasons of confidentiality.
