Gare Saint Lazare

URBAN / ARCH

I lived there for twenty years, and still spend half my time there. For me, this city will always be one of the most beautiful in the world. I still get excited when I see the Eiffel Tower light up - like a kid at a fairground. But Paris has become too heavy, too dense, too much. It has also become a cliché for me. Too easy to pit the grime of its streets against the grandeur of the Place Vendôme. Too simplistic to reduce it to its flaws - too obvious to only celebrate its splendors. What I photographed was something else: train stations, the metro, perpetual motion, mechanical transhumance. Arriving in Paris to better leave it behind. The last two photos were taken at the Château de Chambord.
